Located in the heart of Georgia, Macon is the largest city in the central region of the state and a hub for local commerce. Macon is known for its strong musical heritage, as acts such as the Allman Brothers Band, Otis Redding, Little Richard, and Jason Aldean all trace their origins to Macon. The city is also close to Robins Air Force Base, which is a major employer for residents of the city.
History & Culture
Macon has long been a transportation hub for the state of Georgia as the result of its central location in the state. It is located on the Ocmulgee River and was developed around Fort Benjamin Hawkins in 1809. At one time Macon served as the temporary capital of Georgia before growing further into a transportation hub for railroads. It also grew in prosperity due to the location of several textile mills.

Macon is located at the crossroads of Interstate 75 and Interstate 16, providing easy access to nearly all part of Georgia. The Macon Transport Authority provides intracity transportation via an extensive network of bus routes.
